Two books by Joyce Phillips, previously out of print are now available.

The titles are

  • The Wrights of Tivolli, and
  • William Morris and Rhondda

Copies of the book are available from the Ipswich Visitors Information Centre, 14 Queen Victoria Parade, Queens Park, Phone 07 3281 0555 (Brisbane Rd) Ispwich. The book is also available at the Ipswich Historical Society, "Cooneana" site, 1041 Redbank Plains Rd, New Chum 4303, Ph (07) 3282 0358 (limited opening hours). 

The price for each of these volumes is $39.00 (limited stock).

Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland, Penelope Wensley, was in attendance for the launch. Attendance is by invitation.  Her speech is available to view on the Queensland Govt. This volume covers the mining history of Ipswich for the period 1920 – 2000 (Prof. Ray Whitmore has written three volumes covering the coal mining history of Queensland up to 1925.) is planned. A Historical Film Room in the Ipswich Historical Museum at Blackstone (the former Rhondda Collieries Office) has been commissioned, and is now available to view a number of films and documentries about coal mining.

Recording of Oral Histories - Completed PDF Print E-mail

The recording of oral histories of people involved in the Ipswich Coal Mining Industry. The Trustees have appointed Mrs Margaret Cook nee Pullar, Historian, of Newtown to undertake these interviews. She began the recording in September 2007. The list of verified and approved interviews is following. You can click on their name to read the full interview.
